They're not interchangeable. Each one makes different trade-offs, and the right fit depends on what matters most to you.

Oticon Zeal: A Complete Package

The Zeal sits almost entirely in the ear canal, yet it does things most in-ear hearing aids can't: streams audio directly from your phone, charges overnight like a smartphone, and runs advanced sound processing all day without a disposable battery.

That's possible because of a new manufacturing method Oticon calls encapsulation, where internal components are sealed in protective resin, allowing a larger battery to fit inside a smaller shell. One full charge lasts up to 20 hours. Only 15 minutes of charging gets you 4 more hours if you're running low.

Sound quality is genuinely strong. The Zeal's processing is designed to give you access to a full, natural sound scene and not a flattened or narrowed version of it. In noisy environments like restaurants, it actively reduces background noise while keeping speech clear. Bluetooth streaming, hands-free calling, and compatibility with Auracast-enabled public venues round out the feature set.

One honest caveat: the Zeal fits comfortably for about two out of three people using standard dome tips. If your ear canal is on the smaller side, a custom-fitted shell might be a better path. We'll figure that out at your appointment. Same-day fitting is often possible.

Signia Silk Charge&Go IX: Comfort First

The Silk IX takes a different approach. Instead of a rigid shell, it uses a soft silicone sleeve that molds naturally to the shape of your ear canal. That makes it easier to insert, more comfortable for long days of wear, and very difficult for others to notice.

It's also rechargeable, which is a real improvement over older in-canal options that ran on tiny disposable batteries you'd be swapping every few days.

One feature worth highlighting is Own Voice Processing. New hearing aid users often find that their own voice sounds hollow or boomy at first; this technology adjusts for that so your voice sounds like yours. It's a small thing that makes a big difference in how quickly you adapt.

The one limitation to know upfront: the Silk IX doesn't stream audio directly from your phone. If you want to take calls, listen to music, or watch TV through your hearing aids, this model isn't the right fit. But if comfort and wearability are your top priorities and you don't need built-in streaming, it's a strong contender.

Starkey Omega AI: Smart Adjustments on the Fly

The Omega AI brings something the other two don't: generative AI you can actually talk to. Through the My Starkey app, a feature called TeleHear AI lets you describe what's not sounding right in a given environment, and it adjusts your settings in real time. Crowded room, echoey hallway, loud restaurant? You tell it what's wrong, and it adapts. Starkey reports 93% predictive accuracy, and most patients who've used it say it made a real difference.

Bluetooth streaming is included, so phone calls, music, and TV all work. The Omega AI also has Edge Mode+, which gives you one-tap sound optimization in tough listening situations, which is handy when you walk into somewhere unexpectedly loud.

The trade-off is battery life. Unlike the other two options, the Omega AI CIC runs on a disposable size 312 battery. You'll be swapping them out periodically rather than charging overnight. For some patients, that's a non-issue. For others, it's a dealbreaker. Worth knowing before you decide.
