Save Your Hearing This Firework Safety Month

Fireworks will be booming before long. You will want to make sure that you do all that you can to protect your hearing. If you suffer from hearing loss due to an exposure to loud noise, it will be permanent damage. Some people even need hearing aids to hear what is being said around them. There are many ways to protect your hearing and avoid having to get hearing aids.

Wearing Ear Protection

If you plan to set off fireworks at your home this 4th of July, be sure to wear some kind of hearing protection. There are many different options, including ear plugs and earmuffs. You will want to make sure that they are secure while you are wearing them to ensure that no sound gets through. If a firecracker goes off too close to you, you could have immediate hearing damage. Fireworks are especially hazardous to your hearing when it comes to loud noises.

View From A Distance

If you are going to a fireworks show, consider viewing that show from a distance. Being close to where the fireworks are being set off can do more harm than good. You can often see fireworks for miles, so look for a good vantage point that is away from the noise. This can help to protect your hearing.

Make It A Family Affair

If you and your family are going to a fireworks show, make it a family affair when it comes to hearing protection. Have each person in the family encourage the others to take hearing protection with them. That way no one has to worry about hearing loss and can protect their ears well.

Visiting An Ear Specialist

If you go to a fireworks show without ear protection, see a hearing care specialist as soon as possible. Symptoms may be pain, discomfort, ringing, or buzzing in your ears. Some people have very muffled hearing as a symptom of hearing loss. The specialist will be able to give you testing to see how severe your hearing loss is. If you do have hearing loss, they will be able to show you how to use hearing aids. They will also be able to show you how to protect your ears from loud noises.
